Simulation of Structured Population in a stirred Tank

This talk presents the numerical techniques for and the results of simulations of structured populations fully coupled with the flow in a stirred tank. As a prototype for such a system, crystal growth and attrition in a stirred crystallizer is considered. The main difficulty of the numerical treatment of the considered population models is the efficient computation of the integral term. Besides, the population model extends the fluid dynamics with additional dimensions. Our simulation involves the parallel computations and the adaptive refinement of the grid.
