"Geostatistical inference of hydraulic conductivity and dispersivities from hydraulic heads and tracer data"

This new method jointly identifies the spatial distributions of hydraulic conductivity and of both longitudinal and transverse dispersivities using geostatistical inverse modeling. The estimation obtained by conditioning on measurements of flow and transport related quantities from tracer experiments. Per definition, conductivity fields from geostatistical estimation are lacking small-scale variability and hence underestimate the dispersion/dilution of solutes. In this new method, the jointly estimated dispersivities allow to perform transport simulations with the degree of dilution observed in the tracer experiment and overcome this shortcoming of estimate conductivity fields.
