Current research will be presented on combined laboratory and field work to understand coal-bed methane production in the Powder River Basin in the northwest United States. Current tests include bench-scale enrichments with indigenous microorganisms to determine stimulated and non-stimulated rates of coal-dependent methanogenesis with different nutrients. We are also developing a field site that includes five to six different coal seams at different depths.
