The cooperation between LWW and CNR (Compagnie Nationale du Rhône) will generate synergies and exchange knowledge on reservoir sedimentation and reservoir management.
In a first step, undisturbed sediment core samples were collected during a joint field campaign from two reservoirs of the Rhône River. The sediment cores will be analyzed in terms of their vertical erosion stability to obtain information on the remobilization potential of the sediment deposits (LINK).
The long-term strategy is to establish a cross-border database, which will be continuously fed with new data in order to derive strategies for sustainable sediment management in reservoirs.
