Title: "Toward Reliable Modeling of Calcite Dissolution in Karstic Fractures: Validation of Numerical Models Based on Laboratory Scale Benchmark Experiments"
Place: Pfaffenwaldring 61, Room U.1.003 (MML), 70569 Stuttgart-Vaihingen
Abstract:
Density-driven dissolution of CO2 in stagnant water bodies can significantly enhance carbon uptake in karst environments, yet it is rarely considered alongside classic karstification mechanisms such as mixing corrosion or nonlinear dissolution kinetics. We present a three-stage experimental programme to quantify this process using a laboratory-scale fracture analogue. The experimental apparatus is designed to allow for different benchmark cases in order to validate numerical simulation models.
