Timo Koch has accepted the University of Stuttgart's offer of appointment as tenure track junior professor of hydromechanics and will join the Department of Hydromechanics and Modeling of Hydrosystems on 1st November 2025.
Timo Koch studied "Environmental Engineering" at the University of Stuttgart. He then joined the graduate school "Simulation Technology". His doctoral thesis was supervised by Bernd Flemisch. In his dissertation, he developed numerical methods to efficiently and accurately simulate flows in porous media with embedded transport networks. He successfully defended his doctoral thesis in 2020. After a short period as a postdoctoral researcher, he accepted a position as Scientia II Maria Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Oslo. In 2025, he moved to a position as Project Researcher within the ERC project “aCleanBrain” at the Simula Research Laboratory in Oslo.
Timo Koch's research interests focus on transport in porous media, mathematical modeling of biological and ecological systems, and numerical algorithms for partial differential equations. He is also involved in the development of open-source research software, particularly the DuMux simulation framework.
