EXC 2075: Printing personalized medicines on demand

Forschungsprojekt im Rahmen des Exzellenzclusters EXC 2075 “Daten-integrierte Simulationswissenschaft (SimTech)” gefördert durch die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Projektnummer 390740016

Projektbeschreibung (Englisch)

Additive manufacturing technologies like printing have tremendous potential to change the field of personalized medicine. Special groups of patients like infants often cannot swallow standard medication that is produced in a one-size-fits all manner. 3D-printing and inkjet printing enable rapid and accurate dispensing of drug-containing inks, thus enabling tailored production of personalized medicine with individual doses and a non-traditional format. We now propose the production of individualized medicine by inkjet-printing into porous substrates. Distribution of the drug-ink in porous substrate will be modeled and validated with drug deposition experimental data. This project will demonstrate the feasibility of individual drug dispensing on patient-friendly substrate materials and is a part of the ERC Proof of Concept (PoC) PrintMed project (No. 963914).
