Costanza Aricò is Associate Professor of Fluid and Biofluid Mechanics at the University of Palermo, Italy. She studied Civil-Hydraulic Engineering and passed her PhD in 2004 at the University of Catania.
Costanza's main research activities have been focused on numerical methods for fluid dynamic problems. Her research interests concern the numerical simulation of flow and transport problems in fluid and porous media on the continuum (Darcy) scale. Starting from two recent works on DNS of 3D Navier-Stokes and coupled heat and flow transport problems, she is going to develop a numerical solver for 3D flow and transport problems using unstructured (tetrahedral) grids for hydrogeological/environmental/industrial problem simulations in "real life".
As a guest of SFB 1313, Costanza will spend a 6-month stay at the Department of Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems starting on 1st March 2022. Our group is very much looking forward to work with her on the continuum Darcy solver and pore scale physical processes with special regards to interface conditions, heterogeneities of the medium, hysteresis, etc.
We are very much looking forward to a fruitful collaboration!
