More than 30 years of contributions to porous media education and research
The scientific symposium will honor Rainer Helmig's contributions to the field of single- and multiphase flow and transport processes in porous media, and assess their current and future significance within our research community.
The symposium will explore the following topics:
- Single- and multiphase flow and transport in heterogeneous porous media
- Numerical solution methods for flow and transport processes in porous media
- Multi-scale methods, multi-physics approaches and upscaling
- Coupling of free flow and flow in porous media
- Applications from environment, medicine and technology
Rainer Helmig embarked on his academic journey as a postdoctoral researcher at the former Institute of Hydraulic Engineering (today's "Institute for Modelling Hydraulic and Environmental Systems"), at the University of Stuttgart from 1993 to 1997. Following a three-year interim as a professor at the TU Braunschweig, he returned to the University of Stuttgart in 2000 and took the helm as head of the Department of Hydromechanics and Modeling of Hydrosystems.
During his many years at the University of Stuttgart, Rainer Helmig's visionary leadership and infectious enthusiasm have played an integral role in shaping our dynamic research group. His active involvement in various committees and his dedication to research and teaching have left a lasting impact on the entire university community. His social and devoted nature has earned him widespread recognition and respect.
