Remediation of industrial chemicals from the saturated zone (Phase 1)

Abstract

"Carbon disulfide is a chemical commonly used and transported over the world. It is an example of a dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL). Remediation of spills of a DNAPL poses particular challenges. This study investigates remediation techniques for carbon disulfide in the saturated zone.

Preventive soil conservation hence requires:
oDevelopment of process understanding with respect to the fluid-fluid interaction in the subsurface.
oDevelopment of groundwater remediation technologies in the saturated zone taking into account potential scenarios of contamination.
oAdaption of proven groundwater remediation technologies.
oDemonstration of efficiency of the remediation technique on a technical scale."
