Fair-Flexi: A trustworthy CFD code for simulation and training

Department of Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems

Research Project funded by the German Research Fondation (DFG) - Project number 528525010

Description

The overall goal of this project is to increase the usability of the CFD solver FLEXI and its ecosystem and to help establish it as a high-quality, well-documented and easily accessible open-source framework for complex flow simulations. We call this new framework fair-flexi. A successful implementation of fair-flexi will then serve as a demonstrator for other open-source software and provide the functionality to easily integrate other projects. We try to reach the following specific objectives: 1. Extended and improved usability, 2. Reproducible simulation environment, 3. FAIR data for researchers, interactive training data for learners, and 4. Expanded community of users and developers. This will be achieved by three work packages: WP1 Trustworthy Ecosystem, WP2 FAIR Data and Training, and WP3 Community Engagement. The project is headed by Andrea Beck, Institute of Aerodynamics and Gas Dynamics, University of Stuttgart, and Bernd Flemisch, Institute for Modelling Hydraulic and Environmental Systems, University of Stuttgart.
