Congratulations to Kilian Mouris for successfully defending his PhD dissertation

Kilian Mouris successfully defended his PhD thesis on February 21, 2024. The LWW team is pleased to congratulate Kilian Mouris on his successful PhD defense.

Kilian Mouris presented his doctoral thesis entitled „A holistic approach to assess the impact of global change on reservoir sedimentation” as part of his doctoral examination on 21 February 2024. The examination committee appointed by the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Stuttgart consisted of Prof. Markus Friedrich as chair, Prof. Silke Wieprecht as main examiner, Prof. Nils Rüther from the Technical University of Munich and PD Stefan Haun as co-examiners.

In his work, Mr. Mouris developed an interdisciplinary model chain that can predict the future loss of reservoir storage capacity in a holistic manner. Mr. Mouris has further developed the individual models and coupled them into a model chain. Extensive simulations of a Mediterranean catchment show the expected changes in the sediment supply of the Devoll catchment and the subsequent reservoir sedimentation in the Banja reservoir up to the year 2100. This makes it possible to compare the effects of climate change and future changes in land use and to show their impacts on reservoir sedimentation.
