April 10, 2024 /

On 1st April 2024, Wontae Lee joined the Department of Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems as a research associate. He will work on the SFB 1667-Project B03 "Porous Structures as Atomic Oxygen Trap"

On 1st April 2024, Wontae Lee joined the Department of Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems as scientific assistant. Wontae the course "Chemical and Biological Engineering" at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and wrote a Master's thesis entitled "Coupling of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics solver with Machine Learning algorithm for prediction of fluid behavior".

Wontae Lee will work on the SFB1667-Project B03 "Porous Structures as Atomic Oxygen Trap". In this framework he will collaborate with Bernd Flemisch and Martin Schneider and work on the improvement of the collector efficiency for atmosphere-breathing electric propulsion systems by using porous structures. The occurring rarefied non-equilibrium flows and sorption processes within porous structures will be described in detail using the particle-based DSMC code PICLas. Based on these findings, methods for efficient scaling to macroscopic structures will be developed and evaluated, realizing effective relationships between networks of pore bodies with a fast but faithful surrogate model.

We are very much looking forward to the future collaboration with Wontae. Welcome to our team!
