Assessing sediment transport rates in the Wadis of a GCC country

Project content

To quantify reservoir sedimentation and to make recommendations with respect to reservoir management strategies knowledge on sediment load transported into the reservoirs and the characteristics of the sediments (e.g., grain size distribution) have to be taken into account.

The objective of this study is to investigate the hydromorphological conditions in a GCC country and to gain knowledge of the amount of transported sediments into different flood retention basins.

The used approach is twofold. First the potential of erosion from the already deposited sediments will be obtained based on photogrammetric analyses for different spots in the wadis and second, in-stream sediment transport rates will be estimated based on different flood events and on empirical approaches.
