Remediation of industrial chemicals from the saturated and unsaturated zone (Phase 2)

Abstract

"Carbon disulfide is a chemical commonly used and transported over the world. It is an example of a dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL). Remediation of spills of a DNAPL poses particular challenges. This study investigates remediation techniques for carbon disulfide in both saturated and unsaturated zones.

Preventive soil conservation requires:
oDevelopment of process understanding with respect to the fluid-fluid interaction in the subsurface.
oDevelopment of groundwater remediation technologies in the unsaturated and saturated zone taking into account potential scenarios of contamination.
oDemonstration of efficiency of the developed remediation techniques on a technical scale.
oDemonstration and investigation of fluid migration in the unsaturated zone on a technical scale."
This is a follow-up project to: Sanierung der gesättigten Zone von industriellen Lösungsmitteln (Phase 1)
