DFG-Project: Upscaling and quantification of uncertainties using stochastic-numerical methods

Department of Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems

Funded by the German Research Foundation from 1st October 2005 until 30th September 2007

Description

In this project we want to determine uncertainties in subsurface flow and solute transport modeling, which are due to the heterogeneity of the soil parameters. By applying stochastic finite element methodsto selected flow and transport problems, the probability distributions for pressure and concentration will be calculated numerically. From the probability distribution we canderive transgression probabilities, which are important for risk assessment. We will consider flow conditions which are close toreality, such as flow in bounded domains. Soil parameter fields with complex probability distributions will be considered.
