On 1st August 2023, Rebecca Kohlhaas joined the Department of Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems as scientific assistant. Rebecca took the course "Simulation Technology" at the University of Stuttgart and wrote a Master's thesis entitled "Surrogate-assisted analysis of heterogeneity in porosity during biomineralization".
Rebecca Kohlhaas will work on the SFB 1313-project "D03: Development and realisation of validation benchmarks". In this framework he will collaborate with Bernd Flemisch and Sergey Oladyshkin. The goal of this project is to formulate and conduct benchmarks which assist in the validation of several computational models developed within the CRC (SFB 1313). Here, the main challenge arises from the possibly large uncertainties that are present in the experimental data as well as in the simulation results. A so-called validation metric which compares system response quantities of an experiment with the ones from a computational model has to integrate these uncertainties in a rigorous way. In the proposed project, such validation metrics will be developed by means of a Bayesian validation framework that incorporates parameter and conceptual uncertainty.
We are very much looking forward to the future collaboration with Rebecca within LH2 and SFB 1313! Welcome to our team!
