Excursions

Information about excursions offered by the department

The department organizes an all-day excursion each year, during which selected water management, geological, or technical facilities and hydrologically relevant landscape structures are visited. Participants gain in-depth, on-site insights into the practical application of the topics covered in the course. The excursion offers an exciting hands-on perspective on key issues in the field, particularly for students in Environmental and Civil Engineering. However, it is also a worthwhile opportunity for students from other disciplines to explore the world of hydrosystems.

Registration

There are currently no further excursions planned for 2025.
The next excursion is expected to take place in April 2026.
As soon as more information about the schedule, destination, and registration becomes available, it will be published here.

Past Excursions

As part of the lecture Fluid Mechanics 2, students and staff of the department visited key facilities of the Landeswasserversorgung (state water supply). During the one-day excursion, which included a technical tour led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frieder Haakh, participants visited groundwater monitoring stations, the Langenau water treatment plant, and the Egau water treatment plant. The group gained hands-on insights into the extraction, treatment, and distribution of drinking water – a valuable complement to their theoretical training.

As part of the lecture Fluid Mechanics 2, students and staff explored key karst structures of the Schwäbische Alb (Swabian Jura). Under the expert guidance of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ufrecht, the excursion included stops at sites such as the Falkenstein Cave, the Laichingen Vertical Cave, and the Blautopf spring. The focus was on hydrogeology, water pathways, and geological features of the karst system, rounded off by fascinating insights into cave research.
