This lecture will present methods for uncertainty analysis and for estimation of model parameters from data. The methods are developed for simulation models that require a long computation time for a single simulation. Hence, the uncertainty and parameter estimation methods aim to reduce the number of simulations required. Numerical applications will be shown for data sets for a large groundwater aquifer model and a watershed model with hydrology and phosphorous transport (based on SWAT). These (serial and parallel) methods enable us to analyze larger and more complex models than previously possible.
